Budapest for Christmas is a very fun and unique trip. My family is about to do it for the third time and it is always astonishing. The Christmas Market in Budapest is not only a tradition, but an event of high standard, which is very popular to both Hungarians and foreign visitors alike.
If you’re looking for a place that exudes Christmas spirit you should take in Budapest’s official Christmas Market that is held every year; no matter where you’re from you’ll be amazed at the level of Christmas spirit surrounding you. The main tourist event in Budapest is the Market and is a popular event for Hungarians and foreign travelers to travel to and often most travel just to visit the Christmas Market. The Christmas Market is one of the largest events in Budapest and has become internationally well-known and respected due to the ever changing high quality programs that it boasts. The location in which the Christmas Market is held in is the very aesthetic square known as Vorosmarty square and is located in the center of Budapest.
Traditional Hungarian craftsmen show their talents and sell their hand made products. Only the top Hungarian craftspeople are invited to Budapest’s Christmas Market, so the intricate porcelain, cut glass and leather goods, for example, are of the highest quality. All products are hand-made and the Hungarian Society of Folk Arts guarantees their quality.
The market also has a gastronomic side. Don’t forget to taste traditional Hungarian food and cakes: strudel, grilled sausages and meat, Christmas cookies, kurtos kalacs (hollow, cylinder-shaped pastry with different coatings: sugar, walnut). If you get sleepy, have a cup of coffee with a delicious Hungarian cake in Gerbeaud Cafe.
Something that is new to the Christmas program in Budapest is that the real Santa Claus from Finland is going to be there this year to listen to the wishes of the children who are visiting the Christmas Market. A very important aspect to the Christmas Market program is the Advent calendar.
The Christmas market of Budapest is a spectacular event that is held in the center of the city, in the Vorosmarty square, and is easily within the top ten Christmas markets in the world. A great number of the visitors plan their trips based on the fact they will get to attend the Market.
As with any well run tourist destination, you will not have any problems finding a Budapest hostel if you check online in advance of your vacation.
The Budapest Christmas Fair is one of the favourite events both for tourists and locals in winter. Come and experience the Budapest Christmas Fair and remember to invite your loved ones.
