Worrying about what to do when you arrive at Edinburgh Airport can be stressful unless you take some simple precautions and plan ahead
That stressful feeling is terrible worrying about what to do and where to go when you arrive at Edinburgh. How do you get to the city centre? What part of Edinburgh is your hotel located in? When you first leave the aircraft you simply need to follow the signs to the passport control area, get you luggage and clear customs then you are on your own.
Manchester Airport and London Airports both have more than one terminal building and it can get confusing working out which one you should be at and how to get between them. Edinburgh airport has only one terminal building so at least you do not have to worry about that
Meeting someone at Edinburgh airport? Then arrange to meet them at one of the designated meeting points or get them to suggest a meeting location as they are more likely to know the most suitable part of the airport to meet. If they are collecting you by car then you will only have a short walk to the short stay car park
There is no rail station at Edinburgh Airport however there is a low cost shuttle bus service into the Edinburgh city centre. The shuttle service runs every ten to fifteen minutes. There is also a regular bus service to the city centre as well and is the cheapest option of all. Just look for the coaches displaying the sign Airlink 100 to city centre, the journey time is only twenty five to thirty minutes depending on traffic.
You can hire a car from one of the car rental desks in the airport, however it would be a cheaper option to book online prior to your arrival and get the car you want ready for collection. This will save you money and time and make sure you get the car you want and also to better plan your travel budget.
Car hire is available within the terminal building however it is recommended that you pre-book online prior to your arrival so you get the car you want and it is ready for your arrival. You can also better manage your budget knowing in advance what you have to pay. Having a car does provide a convenience not available with public transport.
Plan ahead and arrive at Edinburgh airport worry free by simply doing a quick check prior to your arrival.

I am from Edinburgh and travelled extensively. Edinburgh airport and its transport to and from could not be simpler if it tried. A bus that leaves from the left hand side of the terminal when you walk outside…(only one way so you cant get lost!)will take you right into central Edinburgh. It stops opposite the railway station at Waverley Bridge just off Princes Street, where the castle can easily be seen, and every bus service passes to everywhere you can name. There are maps of where buses go at every bus stop, and people are super friendly and easily approachable, so on’t be afraid to ask. The bus driver from the airport is pobably a good bet. By the way, if you want to go over the Forth Rail Bridge, dont buy a ticket to Glasgow as the Travel Channel said it links Edinburgh to Glasgow!! NO IT DOESNT!! It links Edinburgh with Perth and Inverness, Aberdeen and Dundee. Glasgow is totally the opposite direction!
Have a great time. Dont forget to visit Roase Street in Edinburgh which lies parallel to Princes Street. Have a great trip!
