Experience a Holiday in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a favourite holiday destination for many European holiday makers and is located in the Atlantic Ocean not far from the African coastline. And this group of islands were once considered by historians to actually be the long lost city of Atlantis.  Today however Lanzarote and the Canaries enjoy the crown of the second most visited region in Spain even though it is not on the European mainland .

Although all part of the same island group however differences between the islands are very noticeable, however as each island enjoys its own quite unique character and cultural development.  For example with the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura governed from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.  Whereas the other islands of El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma are administered from the larger island of Tenerfie.

Lanzarote hasn’t only been a recent tourist destination though as the islands has been attracting British and foreign visitors since the 1900’s .  But more modern tourism was stifled for many years by the political regime of General Franco, and didn’t really start again until the 70’s when restrictions were relaxed to allow the much needed investment that comes with tourism.

It’s amazing how the calming effect of time can change fortunes and today the island welcomes the millions of annual holidaymakers that arrive from all over the world and give the local economy a massive boost, what’s even more surprising is the number of Spanish visitor to the island too.  Many of whom seek to swap the oven like heat of the peninsula for the cooler and more temperate climes of the Canaries during August.

It used to be one of the only ways to book a holiday was via a travel agent, but as the world has “shrunk” with the arrival of the internet generation and cross border commerce is readily available even to the end consumer and increasing number of travellers are deciding to go the independent route.  The upshot of this is that there has been a surge in demand for holiday apartments and villas in Lanzarote. With self catering apartments and villas in the main resorts representing a high percentage of the amount of tourist beds now available on the island.

The most luxurious private rental villas in Puerto del Carmen can be located in areas such as Risco Prieto.  Which enjoys a prominent position above the old town, overlooking the traditional harbour area which is currently being transformed into a beautiful marina which will have all the trapping of luxury for its visitors.

Whilst vistors preferring to look for villas in Playa Blanca should would be best looking at the Montana Roja and Rubicon Marina areas.  As there is an excellent choice of well maintained and high quality accommodation here.

Rural holidays in Lanzarote have also started to grow in popularity over the last few years.  Visitors that are a little more adventurous and tour the island are surprised to find how unspoiled it is .  This ultimately prompts many to come back year after year to experience the real Lanzarote in countryside fincas and apartments.
