The small Canary Island of Lanzarote is best known as a package holiday destination. But away from the main resorts lies a beautiful, unspoiled island that’s peppered with a great selection of romantic hot spots, hideaways and things to do and see.

Lanzarote is located just off the coast of Morocco and enjoys warm weather all year round. Making it perfect for anyone planning to put some heat into their relationship this winter. With temperatures averaging at around 21 degrees Celsius and very little if any rain to dampen proceedings.
The island is already a very popular spot for overseas weddings – with hundreds of Irish and British couples tying the knot here ever year. And boasts plenty of romantic boltholes as well as lots of upmarket boutique hotels with luxury spa facilities.
Enjoy some serious privacy and book a character property in the countryside. Such as the spectacular El Aljibe – a high quality holiday rental located within a former underground water storage tank. Which has been patronised by eminents such as the Princess of Greece and featured in numerous fashionable interior design magazines. Or rent a room at LagOmar – the one time home of the famous Hollywood actor Omar Sharif. Which was designed by a famous local artist called César Manrique along the theme of 1001 Nights, the well known romantic Arabian folk tales.
Both make an ideal base for touring Lanzarote´s 90 plus beaches. Many of which are virtually deserted outside of the peak holiday seasons. As well as stunning natural wonders such as the Valley of 1000 Palms. Where locals have long followed a tradition of planting a palm tree for every new born baby in the nearby village of Haria. Creating a stunning oasis like effect.
Lanzarote’s most popular tourist attraction is the Timanfaya Volcano Park. Which boasts a raw – if unconventional beauty. The region was created by prolonged eruptions in the 1730´s and is now often said to resemble the surface of the moon. As it is covered in lava and spent volcanoes. Visitors can even watch whilst their lunch is cooked on huge grills by the heat emanating from below the earths surface.
There are plenty of other romantic restaurants around the island that are ideal for special meals out. Such as the Jameos del Agua – which by day is one of the most popular tourist attractions but which by night becomes an intimate eatery with just fifteen tables and a refined menu of classic Canarian cuisine.
