In the late 1700′s the Duchess of Bedford began inviting friends over for high tea. This was a late afternoon snack to fill the hunger between breakfast and dinner, as these were the only two meals served at that time. This practice became very popular and is still alive and well in Brisbane. There are many locations which specialize in high tea and below are a few favorites.
Experience the age old traditional High tea, at Joseph Alexanders at Milton, in this 120 year old heritage listed Terrace House which boasts spectacular views of the city skyline and the Brisbane River. Indulge in a selection of freshly baked scones, pastries and finger sandwiches and choose from a wide range of tea, coffee, juice and soft drinks .The Dome Room has a magnificent 25 foot high vault ceiling and ornamental fireplace and has the elegant ambiance of dining in a private home.
High Societea is a favorite location in Clayfield. The attention to detail and amazing presentation make this a great location for a formal Tea party or shower. Since it’s opening in May of ’04 it has become the local favorite Tea House.
The Brasserie is located on the river at the Stamford Plaza. This locations offers specialties such as chocolate infused buffet, or if you prefer a traditional menu, their baked goods, pastries, tea and coffee will please any palate.
Queenies Traditional Tea House is located in Nundah. This tea house offers many desserts and baked goods all of which are made here on site, and include Chocolate Guinness Cake, Passion fruit Sponge (Queenies signature cake) and Cheery and Almond Cake. High tea is served in a traditional manner with all the usual accompaniments.
